What is Freedom?
Freedom means so many things to so many people. Here are just a few examples…
…when you pay off your car
…when you live on your own
…when you have a retirement plan
…when you can carry a gun
…when you can make your own choices
…when you can do what you want without your parents always around
…when you can say what you want to say
…when you can go on vacation
…when justice is served when someone commits a crime
…when I live on a ranch
…when I pay off my house
…when my kids go to bed
…when I get that promotion
…when my neighbor moves
…when my kids graduate
…when we move to another state
…when I get a scholarship to college
…when I get that job
…when I get famous
…when the government gets there act together
…when my son come home from the war
…when I can go out with the girls/guys
All of these things are types of freedom…but they are only temporarily, or they may not even come to pass. Some freedoms actually can lead you into more problems.
Some freedoms help ease stress, worry and some forms of depression; however they are not going to solve the root of the problem. Don’t get me wrong I love it when I get to “FEEL FREE,” and wonderful but, because we do not live in a perfect world, we are not surrounded by perfect people and we make mistakes too, there is always going to be something that causes you to feel strapped down or burdened. So how can we really have TRUE FREEDOM?
We can enjoy all the things that bring us happiness but for true freedom we need to be aware of the root of freedom. Just like when there is a problem and we need to get to the root of the problem we need to get to the root of Freedom. The root of Freedom is peace. Peace that you know without a doubt that your life is taken care of without any reservation, no matter what comes your way. Even when we are knocked down by the worst moments in our lives, we have something that we can hold on to, be able to stand again, and have hope for the future.
So what is the root to Freedom? It cannot be found in things, people, places, or even in the government. FREEDOM can only be found in Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 If you don’t know Jesus as your personal savior, it is not too late. Just ask…..Admit that you have sinned, that you have not followed him. And that you are sorry and want to be forgiven. Believe in God and that Jesus is God’s son, who died for you and your sins. That Jesus rose from the grave and he still lives. Pray and confess that you want Jesus to be Lord of your life. That you no longer want what the world promises and never gives. That you want more…a relationship with Jesus. He loves you so much and as you grow, you will find TRUE FREEDOM.
